Tips for Decorating on a Budget…

Hello everyone! With so much rain this weekend, we decided to paint our powder room. We decided to paint out powder room and I am excited to share the final look! I went dark and I am still getting used to it. Most of our house is a form of white, so this is a huge change.

Home decor is one of my favorite hobbies. I love to decorate and am always thinking of projects to work on. Since we have moved into our house, we have been working non-stop on making our house a home. Anyway, I wanted to share some tips for decorating on a budget.  While I am no expert, I enjoy finding great deals for our home! I get a lot of questions about decor and I thought I would share some of my favorites!

1. Pillow Covers

I love to change my pillows by season. Currently, I have floral pillow covers. These are perfect because you can keep the same pillow while completely transforming a room. I have a set for each season! I find a lot great covers on Etsy! These floral pillows are the perfect touch of pink!

2. Know what to splurge vs. save one

There are certain items that I think are important to splurge on. One of those was our sectional. While it is not overly expensive, it was still a big chunk of change. I knew I wanted something lighter in color and something that could put up with two dogs. We also paid the extra for insurance so that if something happened it could be replaced or fixed in the next five years. The best part is that if you do not use it, you can get the money back. After reading the Magnolia story and hearing from multiple people, the best place to put your money is in the kitchen and bathroom. We added a lot extras to our kitchen while building our house. While we do not have marble countertops, we are planning on tearing our our existing countertops and replacing with quartz or granite.

 3.  Shop sales w/free shipping

One area that I learned a lot from was shopping good sales that included free shipping. One piece of furniture in our house that we get dozens of compliments on is our kitchen table. I happened to find it while shopping with my sister. It has slight damage, but it was 75% off the original price.  I also love places with free shipping. RugsUsa has been a favorite of mine. We have two rugs from them and have been nothing but happy. They have free shipping and the best prices!  End of season sales are another favorite of mine.

 4. DIY
There are a ton of items I wish I could afford to put in our home. Unfortunately, our budget does not allow for that. I have found Pinterest to be great inspiration. Our IKEA bookshelf in our living room was originally white, but thanks to some Pinterest inspiration, it is now gold. In addition, we ship lapped a few ways in our living room. I knew I wanted to add some texture. Thanks to the show Fixer Upper,  we now how shiplap!

5. Accessorize

Homegoods, Magnolia, Pier 1, PotteryBarn,  and Ballard Designs are some of my favorite places to shop for accessories! I have bought from each of these stores multiple times and I love their products. The trick to Homegoods is to shop frequently and always buy or put it on hold. Homegoods moves merchandise quickly, so make sure you put it on hold or purchase it.  Again many of these placed will have free shipping, that is when I purchase.

6. Switch things up

I like to change our house by season. I more orange in the fall and purchase pumpkins. In the winter, I go for red and plaid.

7. Photos/Pictures/Wall Mounts

I love to purchase photo frames from Homegoods and PotteryBarm. Homegoods always has a wide variety and the selection is always good. They also have the best floor length mirrors! PotteryBarn is the place to shop after holidays. They put a ton of frames and pictures on sale!
