DIY Faux Shiplap wall…

Hi everyone! I wanted to share an easy DIY that my husband and I did over the weekend. Since I began watching HGTV's FixerUpper, I have been obsessed with shiplap. I love the way it looks and I knew that I wanted it in our house, but I we could not afford to have it professionally installed. So I researched about how to create your own shiplap walls and jumped right in! The best part of this project was that it only cost us $20 dollars! We have two walls to go! You can easily start and finish this wall in a weekend!

This is what our wall looked like before we began to add the shiplap.

We bought a 1/4 inch thick 4x8 sheet of plywood from Lowes. It was a little over $18 dollars. We also purchased nails to attach the boards to the wall. The nice man at Lowes cut the sheet of plywood into 6 inch strips.

We had to trim off the sides so that it would fit the wall. Once it fit, we nailed the strip to the wall.

To keep with the shiplap look, we used pennies to separate the boards. They work as great spacers. After we nailed the boards on the wall, we pulled out the pennies.

We did not want to take down own TV. (It is mounted to the wall, and a pain to take off) We cut the pieces to fit around the TV.

After we nailed all the strips to wall. (I listen to QVC while I work)

Next, we started painting! We had left over paint that our builder left for trim that we used. We had to put on two coats.

Finished! Up next, moulding! I think Chip and Joanna would be proud! #shiplap

We have three walls that we are planning on adding shiplap to.  Cannot wait to share once it is all complete!

Have a great day!
